The Color of Time: A New History of the World: 1850-1960
The Color of Time spans more than one hundred years of world history—from the reign of Queen Victoria and the American Civil War to the Cuban Missile Crisis and the beginning of the Space Age. It charts the rise and fall of empires, the achievements of science, industrial developments, the arts, the tragedies of war, the politics of peace, and the lives of men and women who made history.
This illustrated narrative is a collaboration between a gifted Brazilian artist and a New York Times bestselling British historian. Marina Amaral has created two hundred stunning images, using rare photographs as the basis for her full-color digital renditions. Dan Jones has written a narrative that anchors each image in its context and weaves them into a vivid account of the world that we live in today.
A fusion of amazing pictures and well-chosen words, The Color of Time offers a unique—and often beautiful—perspective on the past.

History in a whole new light
First of all, the work Marina Amaral puts into these historic photos is phenomenal. Dan Jones' historical text even further brings them to life. This United States edition isn't quite as regal and substantial as the original UK edition--side by side, the UK edition is a bit heftier (the UK pages are much thicker). I do love the dust jacket image of the Wright Brothers. I cannot recommend this book enough.
Gorgeous, painstakingly colorized photos and fascinating history
This is an incredibly beautiful book, with interesting history and gorgeous photos. Highly recommend! The accompanying photo is an example of Marina Amaral's stunning colorization of historic photos, this one of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, 1897.
Amazing photos and lively text bring history alive.
Enlightening and enjoyable portal to the past. The photos are stunning, the color feels natural and brings the past alive. I saw a few of the photos and that inspired me to buy the book. The real bonus was the lively and informative text with each photo. Really gave context and together with the photos tell stories of our world. Reading this in a wonderful experience, that's you to different times and places.
Best Table Top Book
This book is incredible. I follow the author and recolor artist on twitter which is how I found the book. I bought one copy for myself and have gifted two other copies. Stunning work that makes history jump off the pages.
Breathtaking colors of classic black and white photographs
I love this book so much! Viewing these iconic pictures in color add to the reality of the subjects, especially the one with the woman from the Great Depression. Whenever I have guests to my home, I typically share this book with them and they inevitably sit and read it for at least 15 minutes! I plan on buying another copy as a gift for a friend who is a avid history lover.
Absolutely the best
This is absolutely my favorite book of all time. It's historical and artistic wrapped in to one. The colorization of so many of the people really made me feel like I was there, in that era, when before it all felt so distant. I have also bought this book to give as gifts, because I want others to experience the same. Do not pass up the opportunity.
